Dies academicus an der Uni Bonn, 14. Mai 2025: »WALES AS A CULTURAL CROSSROADS«
1.) Ceridwen Lloyd-Morgan: »Word and Image in Medieval Welsh Manuscripts«
Although comparatively few medieval Welsh manuscripts contain planned series of illustrations, closer inspection reveals a great variety of visual images, from full-size coloured drawings to marginal penwork figures. But what is the purpose or function of these visual images, and how Welsh are they?
2.) Ned Thomas: »Renan, Arnold, Unamuno: Philology & the Minority Languages«
Did the very fact of being studied influence the self-perception and development of ourselves, the minority-language peoples of western Europe? An event in 1864 on the coast of north Wales serves to dramatize a history seen through the prism of linguistic science which was itself developing. The dilemmas of those times have not wholly disappeared. - Zu Ned Thomas siehe: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_Thomas
